Our goal
York SENDIASS welcomes all children, young people, parents and carers and professionals. We want to make sure everyone can use our service and feel respected and safe. We will always try our best to make this a service that is easy to use, and you feel included
What inclusion means to us
At York SENDIASS, inclusion means:
- everyone is heard
- everyone’s voice matters
- everyone can access our information and advice
- everyone is treated fairly
- we respect all backgrounds and identities
- we provide free impartial information, so we do not take anyone’s side
- we are confidential (look at our confidentiality policy for when we must share)
Who we support
York SENDIASS is here for:
- children and young people with SEND (age 0 to 25)
- parents and carers
- young people who want support on their own (age 16 to 25)
- professionals with consent from families or generalised information and advice
You do not need a diagnosis or an EHCP to get help.
How we make our service inclusive
We make York SENDIASS inclusive by:
- offering different ways to contact us
- using clear, simple language
- providing information in different formats
- listening to what you need
- supporting children and young people to share their views
Respect and confidentiality
We treat everyone with kindness and respect. What you tell us is private, unless someone is unsafe.
Checking we are inclusive
We improve our service by:
- asking for feedback
- looking at who is using the service
- removing barriers when we find them
If you are unhappy
If you think we are not being inclusive, you can:
We will try to change things when we understand. You will see we provide, ‘You said, we did’ on our Facebook page, as we want to be better.
If you still think we have not been inclusive, please make a complaint to York SENDIASS (we have a complaints policy); if you are still unhappy you can take your complaint to City of York Council.
